About Me
My name is Katrina Palmer and I live in the beautiful town of Richmond North Yorkshire. After nearly 20 years running a business locally growing organic vegetables – I moved to Richmond 7 years ago hoping to find a quieter life and a way to express myself artistically. I joined a lovely local writers group who appreciated poetry I had written through my life and I got inspired to start making cards in 2021. Making the cards has been a vital part of improving my mental health and well being.
Having been well received by friends and family – I have been steadily building a following at local craft fairs and events and this year I took a further step in my artistic expression by creating a range of framed pictures which in turn have inspired new card designs ! I am currently expanding my presence in Richmond by joining the weekly Saturday market and my cards are also in the Post Office in Finkle Street but also by developing this new website for you to be able to purchase online .
Each design is inspired by the imagery and sentiment of the poem and also by the matching of the many different colour combinations from the materials I use – card, paper , wrapping paper, old maps, books and calendars plus a range of small sequins and gems . I cannot resist when I see a new paper or possible colour combination and the many different tiny shapes from the world of nail art!
From these materials I use a range of craft punches to cut out different shapes – hearts , leaves , stars, Christmas trees – even cats and dogs – its amazing what shapes you can cut out – I was very excited recently to find punches that cut out spirals and holly leaves! More recently I have also been creating my own shapes to print and cut out – namely for the bee and hedgehog designs – and I now have my friends helping me cut these out which is a great fun and mindful activity for them in exchange for some biscuits and wine!
The range of cards and framed pictures from Art and Rhyme are designed and hand made by myself and they are unique in that they have my own original poetry printed on the back of the card or as part of the image in the pictures . They are also totally individual because although they follow a design – its impossible to exactly replicate the image each time so you can be pleased to know your purchase is completely special.
The poems are based on the poetry compiled in my book “Love Walks Quietly” . These poems have been written throughout my life and are often inspired by nature and the changing seasons and the feelings that inspires. They are also around the themes of love, animals and special occasions and more recently the beautiful town of Richmond North Yorkshire where I live.
Once the shapes are cut out I go to work placing them in order and sticking them down – on average each card or image takes about 20 minutes to make and it is very satisfying to produce a beautiful image to help express the imagery of my poetry.
The cards are made of 240gm kraft brown paper and come with a kraft brown envelope – they are 6 x 6 inches in size. They are left blank inside so that you can write your own message and so that they are suitable for many different occasions of your choice. They can be purchased as single cards or in packs of 4
The framed pictures come with a choice of black or white frame and in 3 different sizes
